Zithromax is also very useful to fight against some sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis, and Sinusitis which is caused by susceptible bacteria.

The elimination half-life of Zithromax is 68 hours (Half-life is used to estimate the time it takes for a drug to be cleared from the body). In general, before a drug is assumed to be ineffective after use, it will take 5.5 times longer than the drug’s half-life to clear from the body. Therefore, with this, it takes about 374 hours (5.5 x 68 hours) for Zithromax, which is 15.5 days, to be eliminated from the body after ingesting.

How Much Does Zithromax Cost?

So many things affect the price of a drug. Zithromax can cost more without having health insurance. The choice of pharmacy can also affect the cost of Zithromax drugs. In Canadian online pharmacy, Zithromax 500mg (for three tablets) has a starting price of $22.

A certain means to cut costs is to use mail-order pharmacies like the Canadian Pharmacy Drug, therefore, saving you money when you go to the pharmacy to get your medicine without leaving your home.

This also enables a long-term supply of medicines and helps cut costs by eliminating needless journeys to pharmacies.

General Overview

Zithromax is used to treat various bacterial infections. It is a macrolide antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This medicine does not work for viral infections (cold, flu, COVID-19, etc.), and unnecessary use or abuse of the antibiotics can make them less effective.

A Zithromax tablet contains azithromycin dihydrate to 600 mg of azithromycin. It also contains the following excipients:

  • an aqueous film coating consisting of anhydrous dibasic calcium phosphate;
  • pregelatinized starch;
  • croscarmellose sodium;
  • magnesium stearate;
  • sodium lauryl sulfate;
  • hypromellose;
  • titanium dioxide;
  • lactose;
  • triacetin;

Zithromax for oral suspension is supplied in single-dose packs containing azithromycin dihydrate equivalent to 1mg of azithromycin. It also contains the following sedentary components:

  • colloidal silicon dioxide;
  • trisodium phosphate;
  • anhydrous;
  • sucrose;

Zithromax (azithromycin) for injection is a macrolide antibiotic designated for the treatment of patients with infections caused by susceptible strains of designated organisms in conditions such as community-acquired pneumonia and pelvic inflammatory disease. Use Zithromax for injection followed by Zithromax for oral use as needed or as administered by a pharmacist.

How to Use

If available from your pharmacist, read the package leaflet before you start taking Zithromax and each time you get a supplement, if you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The Zithromax antibiotics should be taken by mouth, usually once a day, with or without food, as directed by a pharmacist or doctor. You can also take this medicine with food if you notice an upset in your stomach. The dosage depends on the medical condition and response to treatment.

To take the Zithromax oral suspension (liquid), shake well before measuring the dose. Measure the medicinal solution with the attached measuring syringe, or the dedicated measuring spoon or medicine cup. After usage, store at room temperature away from moisture and heat and discard unused potions after 10 days.

For best results, take the Zithromax antibiotics regularly. Take this medicine at the same time each day to help you make it a routine. Continue taking the medicine until the prescribed portion is used up, even if the signs fade in a few days. If the drug is stopped early, bacteria may continue to grow and the infection may return.

What are the Warnings to Take Note of When Using Zithromax?

Do not use Zithromax if you are allergic to azithromycin or similar drugs, or if you have ever had jaundice or liver problems from taking Zithromax. Tell your pharmacist if you have ever had liver disease, kidney disease, myasthenia Travis, cardiac arrhythmias, or low blood potassium levels. or QT long syndrome (either you or any member of your family).

It is unknown if Zithromax passes into breast milk or if it can harm a nursing baby or an unborn child. So, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, please consult your doctor.

Also, do not give Zithromax to children under 6 months of age.

Taking antacids containing aluminum or magnesium at the same time as taking Zithromax may reduce the absorption of azithromycin. If you are taking antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium, postpone their usage for at least two hours before or after taking Zithromax. If the situation remains or worsens, consult your doctor.

If a dose of Zithromax is missed during the period of using it, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s time to take the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take an additional dose to make up for missed doses, and if peradventure, you happen to overdose, make sure to seek medical attention immediately.

Antibiotics can cause diarrhea, which can also be an indication of a recent infection. If you notice watery or bloody diarrhea, quit using Zithromax and talk to your doctor. Do not use antidiarrheals unless directed by your doctor.

Prolonged or repeated use of this medication may lead to oral thrush or new yeast infections. If you suddenly get a glimpse of white patches in your mouth, changes in your vaginal discharge, or other new symptoms, see your doctor immediately.

Very severe allergic reactions to this drug are rare. However, if you notice symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, such as persistent fever, recent or withering glands, rash, itching/bulging (especially on face/tongue/throat), serious dizziness, or problem breathing.

An allergy to Zithromax may return even if the drug is stopped. So, it is extra important to keep a close watch out for symptoms.

Avoid sunbathing and tanning beds. Zithromax can make you tan more easily. Wear protective clothes and make use of sunscreens (SPF 30 or higher) when outside.
